honestly, it wasn't cause i wanted to at first. but i grew to like the freedom from the computer lab.
the lab at drury sucked when i was there. old macs running some crappy, cheap cad tool.
i got a brand new notebook for college and since i worked at little tikes as an industrial design intern prior to leaving for school they gave me a copy of autocad r14.
all worked out.
it actually wasn't too bad. i mean, sure...render times in studio max were slower...and it was a smaller user space for autocad. but, working wasn't bad. i had a decent trackball that plugged in.
no worse than working on a 15 or 17" monitor.

don't know. i seemed to have a inherit knack for technology. the whole story is pretty long...but in a nutshell, i took a job with the 'web' office at drury. writing html, css and javascript for the designers. i also helped with web server maintenance.
our highschool was the first isp in town. so, students were able to volunteer time for tech support. we got to learn while we helped out users. first time i met linux was at school...red hat 5 i believe.
i was a huge tech geek...drafting and engineering. i tied with a fellow classmate for first in a missouri architecture competition.
i just found myself doing more with web servers and coding than with architecture....enter the dot.com bubble and a few misc. jobs here and there and i ended up following a career in networking and programming instead of architecture.
i still love architecture...but not as much as i dig networking and such.
besides, the two really are quite similar.
