here's an update on the sony/toshiba blu-ray talks.
- randoman0
What sort of access times are associated with blueray?
I assume that most of the data thats stored are enourmous hes textures. And having disks this large with this much info needing to get piped in... wondering what load times will be like.
- jco0
a couple years ago sony announced a process they can use to make blu-ray disks out of corn so they're biodegradable

good idea about the shock gauge, the higer ranked you are the higher voltage shock you can give, or should it be the other way around, but they definitly have to solve lag problems if they want to implement shock trigger into the controller, or I'd throw the damn thing out the window by the second time I get a shock without good reason.

Once again..manfacturing costs would kill that idea.
Is this why they keep designers out of the boardroom? hah j/k

On the subject of controllers...
I agree on the horrors of designing a controller that is enjoyable across age and sex groups.
You can look at the controller much like a shoe, the better it fits, the better performance and comfort you get. It would be great if companies started to design differnt sized controllers much like you would find different size sneakers or shoes. Try one on and pick the best size/fit.
Every sport has it's own accessories and you would find it insane if there was only one size tennis racket, one size/weight bownling ball, baseball bat, ice skate, etc.
They should treat controllers more like this... more custom to the individual.

late to the party uberdesigner?
haha

randoman:
I think you're right about the delay.
We'll have to see what happens.
After Virtual Boy, and other such failures, I wonder who will be the brave company to come out with the first generation?
- uberdesigner0
it looks like ps3/xbox360 will have a lot of the same games...
http://www.majornelson.com/2005/…
so 360 will have final fantasy etc, on top of signing a bunch of top japanese game designers. it'll probably be a decent fight.

shock controllers should come with a shock gauge, next time ur friends say thei're so l33t at a fps game... crank that gauge up to 1000 volts and let him show u how l33t he is.

Nothing a little warning on the box couldent aliveate (sp!)
As far as getting nautious is concerned, I think if they were carefully when implementing the design it could be avoided.
Those movie goggle things have been popular for sometime w/out reports of getting sick.
And with newer technology there should be less or virtually no lag time (ie. turn your head and the image updates w/out latency) this is what I think was the problem with the older VR outfits. even a few hundred milliseconds can mess u up over time.

no, you can't turn it off, or everybody will do it and it will not serve its purpose, and its rated M, use at own risk, if you have health issues play mario, besides if people get satisfaction from killing, pay the price of a little pain. shiiit.
