Hey guys, I'm pricing up a new system, just wondering what your power requirements are, what you have and how much you paid for it.
Is 400W enough for a AMD Athlon 64 3000+ system?

better opt for a nuclear reactor.

yes.

Shit I meant, 370W, what about now?

to be accurate, there is an equation that should be done to calculate the total voltage of all the hardware components and match that against the output of the power supply.
some say you will need at least a 480w power supply.
550 would be ideal to handle all the parts efficiently.
a 400 would do the trick depending on system configuration. what gpu are you using? what type of harddrive(s)? what mobo did you buy?
etc. etc. etc.

AMD Athlon 64 3000+
Elite K8T800-A Mobo
2 x 512MB DDR Memory
2 X HDDs (60GB and 40GB)
[May be buying a sata to replace these]Little or no USB devices
Combo Drive
Possibly a GeForce 6600 GT 128MB

then i suggest using a 480 or higher power supply.
and, if you're going to buy 2 drives. buy sata(s). and get the same drive and configure a raid for backup.
the price of 80GB sata drives is comparable to 80GB ide.
a software raid is better than just an extra drive.

i've got a similar system..
standard, i'd say don't go below 400.. i've got an Antec TruePower 430 and it's whisper quiet, and keeps things nice and running
my previous was a 400W and it was just less than i needed, so i'd get cut outs, and black screens outta nowhere.. but it was cause i had added a second HD and optical drive.. so there was more juice being pulled..
good luck

//depends on if you are going to put neon lights all up in it.
