that contraption seems kinda silly. also there will always be a market for film and proper darkroom development

Damn, u obviously havent been on a location shoot before w/ a digital SLR or a photog using one.
This thing sounds damn good.

(Jun 11 05, 20:22)This is like saying theres a market for apple's so why sell orange juice?

ive been on location with both thank you very much
no real photographer worth it's salt would be happy about the statement that everything will go digital..
thats the statement the struck me the most.

Ah ok, what that means, at least from what I gather, is that there is a digital version of these things, not really an end all be all replacement.
So you have the lupe which has certain advantages for film which hasnt been explored in digital yet.
Film certainly isn't dead yet. Digital still hasnt met or passed the quality and versitiliy of film. And while films exists, so will lupe's and light boxes and darkrooms and devoloper chemicals etc.
I've been on location shoots before and image review can be a nightmare... if not forced to huddle around a 3 inch LCD because the photog wasnt thoughtfull enough to bring a laptop, then on a bigger LCD w/ viiewing angle problems and big exposure inaccuracy from ambient and sunlight.
Seeing the images in an accurate constant way like in those old school viewfinder toys would be so dope, at least its how I picture it.

My opinion is not influenced by the fact I am a TNM author either!

nor was mine

but if you are a decent photographer with a 18k digital back, viewing the shots on a lapper seems like a better option

In some reguards yes, but for the final word no.
Only in studio/optimized lighting environment can you make a sound judgement on the images true quality. And most if not all off location digital shoots fall under this.
For a general idea of color and lighting and for compostition, a laptop is ok for now.

Sorry I meant most if not all off loc shoots dont fall under optimal viewing situations.
Sh*t if someone is gonna sell a pocketable, optimized viewing studio I'm sure not going to be one to call to silly. The real question is if it can deliver.
