Auto trace in Illustrator cs2?

Hello everyone. I've installed a few days ago the CS2 version of Illustrator but didn't have the time to play with it. Today I was trying to find the auto trace tool but as it seems adobe replaced it with the live trace option which doesn't really do what I want it to do. Basically is terrible. With the live trace you have no control whatsoever of the final image. I know you can mess with the settings but whatever change you do affects the picture as a whole entity.
The unique thing with autotrace was the fact that you could only mess with parts of the picture until you were ready to edit the next part and so on. It was identifying areas of similar color and creating paths around those areas. I can't have this sort of control with live trace.
So my question is. Is the auto trace tool hidden somewhere in cs2 or is there another workaround for the auto trace functionality? Other than going back to cs1.Thanks in advance for your answers.

take a look at this plug-in and see if it can do what you want...it's pricy though:
