i've been thinking lately that it would be pretty cool to be able to identify the various birds around my house.
i truely am getting old.

That's a baby English sparrow (you can tell by the marks on the side of its mouth), and too young to know better.
In the winter, in upper Manhattan, the birds will eat right out of your hand, or at least my hand.

And spring migration this year was great! You can see scores of different birds, all decked out in bright spring plumage (make the female birds crazy!) Central Park is one of the best spots in the country to watch birds--something like 200 species go through there.

Last friday we were doing 160km/h on the highway in Belgium discussing why they have a speed limit while Germans don't. Then all of a sudden a pigeon hit our windshield with a loud thump. It left a wet spot on the glass. If it hadn't hit us with its soft side, I'm not sure I'd be writing to you now.
At least now I know where the speed limit comes from.

I've been into watching birds and squirells lately. I think its cuz I've got a porch now, but like blaw it also makes me feel old.

birds are great.
this year lots of species that have been dwindling seem to be making a comeback.
i've seen lots of baltimore [now called northern] orioles and cardinals and goldfinch and rose-breasted grosebeak up in connecticut, where i live.
so beautiful.
