Well my area made it to #4... Vienna, VA... I live about 5 min from. Although Reston, VA kicks vienna's butt EASILY.
http://money.cnn.com/best/bplive…
"Today, Vienna is valued for its jobs and schools. Median income is more than $110,000, and IBM, Capital One and AOL are among dozens of big-name companies with large operations in the area. And D.C. and federal employment are just 12 miles away.
Unfortunately, jobs outnumber houses. Result: Over the past five years, the median home price in Vienna has nearly doubled. Older homes can be had for $500,000, but new construction goes for north of $700,000. On the plus side, property taxes aren't bad and the local high school consistently ranks among the country's best.
Music, dance and opera run year round in both indoor and outdoor theaters at Wolf Trap, the nation's only national park for performing arts.
Everyone shares one complaint: traffic on Maple Street. Driving the two-mile main drag can take up to 25 minutes during rush hour."

Please, all of northern virginia is strip mall country. Sure, if you love cheesecake factory and starbucks, it's a great place to live. For the soulless worker bees.

Vienna is overrated! It's blending into Tyson's Corner and houses are crazy there. However slinky don't talk smack because i went to McClintock High School....we never liked people from Reston

This list is more like top villages to live in. Sheesh, there's only one city with a population over 400,000.

I am OG from Dale City, VA,... we hated the rich snobs in Fairfax County.
Now I live there (not rich) and I am sure others feel the same about me.
I tell you Reston really is an amazing place to live. (except for traffic)
Dulles Airport 5 miles from me
All the best restaurants and multiples of each.
dozens of movie theaters within 30 min
close to DC
close to mountains
not a terribly long drive to a beach.
i have like 5 lakes near my house
increadible golf course walking distance away...
awesome church

yeah Reston is better just had to jab back a little bit cause I used to live there. Overall D.C. is killer I never ran out of stuff to do and the food in that city is great. It will cost you though to live there.
*puts on vintage Tracks nightclub shirt.

if you bought a house at right time here then your sitting pretty.
my house i got for $228k might now sell for almost $400k
geeeesh., i couldnt afford to buy my own house now.

honestly, that might be the worst article i have ever read. i live in D.C. and love it. (although moving in 2 months to S.America) The criteria they use is so qualitative and make no sense at all. Yeah Mill Valley is great (used to live there) but "good" because housing STARS @ $800k? wtf?!
Money Mag never ceases to amaze....

what a load of crap. louisville CO #5, and #1 is in NJ?
please.
- grafholic0
mill valley...eh?
yeah the place is beautiful but there are too many rich assholes that live there..

cnn. says all.

Bainbridge Island, WA? While beautiful it is incredibly expensive.

i used to live close to Middleton, WI. I would have to agree that the neighbourhoods are nice and the schools are excellent. It has always been more expensive than madison, but that is probably why the schools and neighbourhoods are so nice.

just wanted to take credit for MN taking all 10 spots on the top 10 coldest cities :-)

I dont mean to be rude but those places look so boring. What is there to do? you dont expect me to go out and talk to farmers do you? :)
Give me large cities with lots of stuff to do/see anyday.
