Folio Site Structure?

I'm about to restart my portfolio site ahead of applying for jobs in Canada. I work mainly in print so it'll be a simple site, like my last one in 2003. So, a couple of quick questions...
CV/resumé/profile on the site, yes/no? Is it really necessary if you're sending a CV to potential employers?
How many pieces of work? (I was thinking about 20).
Out of lots of portfolios you've seen, which were the most effective? Is it better to have a site with bells & whistles or something ultra-simple that doesn't detract from the work?

personally I like ultra simple.
the site should be but a simple frame around the canvas of your work, anyway just my thoughts...
mail ye soon about them drinks too ;)

i agree, i've just relaunched mine.
trying to keep it simple.i'd like to know what you think:

Simple's what I was thinking. I like sites like Mark Boyce, By Default, Thirteen, We Are Tourist - really simple and a piece of piss to navigate.
What about the text/info? Yay or nay?
MX_Ond, we could do a stint at the Spiegeltent for the drinks before it vanishes for another year?

up for that 5timuli, some night this week maybe?

Stop asking stupid questions and make a portfolio on your own. That way it reflects you and your personality the way you alone want, not everyone else.

(Aug 9 05, 03:08)Fresnobob, I don't think these are stupid questions.
I'm making the site to appeal to potential employers, not to please myself. It's not an ego thing. I don't want people to visit the site and go "Wow, you're my hero!" - I want potential employers to look at it and be able to view the work with no hassles or distractions.
Anyway, for a print designer, don't you think it's the work that should reflect your personality, and as MX_Ond said, the site should be a simple frame?

nice and clean........
:)
it would be perfect if you had at "work" submenu. Like "web", "print" etc.......
It will be more usable for employers (somebody who is looking for something specific and not for someone who is looking generally a folio)....

MX_Ond, sometime this week would be good. I'll check the funds and get back to you.

Mmmm. The Spiegeltent. I do miss Embra sometimes.

Oh and yes. Keep it simple but easy to navigate. Let the work do the work.

It just seems to me that if you want to get a job you will like where you do work you can be proud of you should make your portfolio reflect yourself. Asking things like 'How many pieces?' and 'What works best?' are questions you, as the creator of your body of work, should decide for yourself. With a portfolio you are, essentially, selling your self. If you adulterate that by asking others how you should design your self, you are not selling your self, you are selling you, with them in it. A company will want to hire you, not you and them.

Did you ever hear that album 'fuck canada//fuck america'?

"It just seems to me that if you want to get a job you will like where you do work you can be proud of you should make your portfolio reflect yourself."
My portfolio does reflect myself and I want the work in my portfolio to get me the job I want, not the site itself.
"With a portfolio you are, essentially, selling your self. If you adulterate that by asking others how you should design your self, you are not selling your self, you are selling you, with them in it."
I'm not asking anyone to design anything, I'm merely asking questions on appropriate structure and optimum content (in their opinion). I'll make my own decisions based upon this.

Anyway if you listen to what I've said you're "thick in the heid as shite in a bottle"
