I've just discovered someone's freeloading off my net connection through my airport. What should I do? Should I just change my security settings or report them?
I don't know them but I know their name... discovered it while using iTunes, her name popped up in Shared Music.

change your security settings.
don't report them. essentially it's your fault to not lock it down.

dude- why the hell don't you have a password for the network?
- scoops0
just set a password... she'ss get the hint

Maybe she is hot.
- spendogg0
and you would be happy to plug her in, anytime.

on a realted note, any one know a way that you can tell who's using your wireless connection?

There is a password set up, and I'm running NetBarrier too - she's still here.

or more or less plug into her.

Make a playlist with her name + some message.

you can tell the IP address that they're using, and possibly the hostname of the machine, but that's about it

I found out through iTunes, then went into Network (in Finder window in Tiger).

That's just it though, I found out her name through iTunes: 'Xxxxx Xxxxxxxx's Shared Music'
- scoops0
yeah, that's what i usually do, but i was just wondering if there was some app that'll give you a breakdown of who's on...
- Soler0
scoops, check ur email

maybe you are on her network? Shared Music could turn up that way?
- jpea0
if you have your router setup to only accept connections with a password, then they cannot use your connection. simple.
are you possibly on a larger (possibly campus) network and maybe she's just sharin' her tunes over her regular ethernet that your router is connected to?

use mac addresses, wep and a password, 3 layers of security isnt worth it to wheeze off of. also, dont broadcast your SSID.
- scoops0
soler, back at ya...
- mrdobolina0
who would you report them to, anyway?
- 5timuli0
Nope, home network. Airport with Powerbook wireless and iMac connected through Ethernet.
Just changed all my settings and it seems to have worked.
