University

I'm still in 6th form college at the mo (2 extra years after school, like college but for clever people) and i'm dead set on graphic design, and thinking about university. I've been to a few open days at ok courses, and the tutors say i need a foundation course. But my art teacher says that i should apply to Slade, Camberwell or St Martins this year.

So firstly, some opinions on that - do i need a foundation year or not? Bearing in mind that i've never screenprinted, and maybe a foundation year would teach me some good core basics.

Secondly, my mum doesn't want me going to London for university, partly because of the money, and partly because she thinks its an awful place these days, alien and frightening. Her words.

So, what do you reckon. My uninformed opinion is that i need to try and break into London, because that's where the heart of contemporary graphic design beats, and i'll get stuck in a backwater, 9-5 print office otherwise.

    'Pinions?

    Sound,
    Pat.
