Another potentially interesting thread quickly gone sour on NT. I raised my rates significantly about 18 months ago. I meet with a lot of clients that think it is too much money, but overall, I am doing more work now than I ever have. I am not interested in working for clients looking for the Walmart version of design anyhow. My best clients have never flinched at the cost.

true. also i choose my clients. they don't choose me.
i turn more away than i take.
one guy wanted to pay me 100 for an admin site, but was more than willing to pay a hot female trainer 70 an hour just for her to watch him work out and jot down weights and reps in a book.
how did it get this bad?

I think some kind of union would help.

generally the work I do at 'friends' rate turns into shit sometimes, whereas the market rate clients pay on time and respect the work/arrangement.
Give an inch...

i don't even do work for friends anymore, unless its pro bono for a chairty. its a waste of time and it usually turns into an insane hassle and ends up being way more trouble than its worth. i'm taking qbn's advice and raising my rates today, meeting with the boss at 3 pm.
