Sagmeister only wrote the foreword. The book is a mixture of practical and philosophical questions that are answered by successful designers. Topics include, getting a job, your personal portfolio, setting up a studio, winning new work and more.

Seriously though design theory, discourse, essays, etc can be notoriously boring, probably due to bad writing, but especially when comparing/citing work to make a point, and there is nothing more annoying if the point isn't illustrated and you have to do your own fookin' research to find the reference yourself and by then you have forgotten what the writer was trying to say and.........yawn!!!

The writing and layout are well done and although there are illustrations they are not necessarily in corelation to the text. In short, this is a $13 book that should be $40. A perfect read for anyone serious about finding their way in the business of graphic design. Trust clerk - this is essential reading.
