Buying domain name

What's the general consensus on buying domain names from a cyber-squatter? Is there anything to be wary of when doing so? I have a client that wants a domain that is already registered - the asking price is reasonable at $450 but I was unsure whether or not it was a sketchy practice.

some dude was on my domain for 2 years... i emailed him and he was like $1000... i didn't email him back and just waited and got an email back about a month later and he dropped it to "i'd like to get out of it what i've put into it... say, $250" then he didn't renew it

I hear ya seed. I hate that crap, but the domain name is a small price to pay (especially at that price). Unfortunately it's their initials so there aren't other options besides a longer url.

What is the name and business? Maybe someone can think of a good alternative.
My domain email was outdated and some squatters bought some of my names. I had already built an app and business ideas for them too.
I should have been more diligent but it is still a shady practice.
A skate shop with a very distinct name I worked for changed hands and there was an interim period before relauching the site and a squatter bought that too only to do nothing with it.
It's just annoying.

Ya, my votes goes for finding a work-around if at all possible, but my experience in this is nil. On a related note, my first domain name expired due to my unfathomable apathy towards renewing. One of those fake search engine company things picked it up and have been sitting on it for years now. Heavens knows why, I'm the only one who ever checks it out...

find a workaround.......
i've seen bands that have not been able to use "bandname.com" so they changed it to something like "ihatebandname.com" easy to remember that way.
