Doesn't PHP come preinstalled with Mac OSX Tiger? I'd like to be able to view dynamic content locally on my Powerbook. I've googled but keep finding conflicting information about how to get it up and running. Help please!

Does not come native, looking for the link to get it up and running on your mac.

Yes it does- but download this version:
http://www.entropy.ch/software/m…
This will come with other goodies installed and turned on (like GD Library) - click it and install.
You can then place your site in your user SITES folder or in the library/webserver/documents folder.
Read this too for fun if your interested:

My bad, it does come installed.

run the install download I posted. You can unpack it and run the version defaulted to the OS but the version I posted has more options you might need in the future.

Got it. Thanks for the links guys. This should be interesting...treading into unknown territory. Doesn't sound too bad though.

You could try MAMP (Mac-Apache-MySQL-PHP) which you can run without messing with the default PHP install on Tiger:

interesting - thanks!!

Wow! That was super easy megatron. Great find. Thanks for the tip.

MAMP is very limited set up, no big deal for minor testing but it will restrict you in the future if you are attempting bigger things (like running your own server even).

I tried MAMP, I thought it was absolute PANTS!!
I uninstalled and followed Macromedias tutorial
http://www.macromedia.com/devnet…
It shows you how to activate the preinstalled version
I am pretty happy with it.

KILLputer, I installed the package from entropy and it works like a charm. When I restart though - I lose all functionality. I'll do some research at entropy.ch but do you have to start up Apache or something? Thanks again for the link.
- Duane0
Got it going! This is pretty sweet with GDLib and all.
- KILLputer0
You have to start Apache in your system preferences.
Entropy's set up is by far the best set up. Easy to install, tested and tested again, and loaded with custom features.
Do you have PHP MYAdmin
installed to configure and view your PHP Info?
- Duane0
Yes I can view PHP Info and PHP MyAdmin. It's all working now. The reason it wasn't working after start-up is that personal web sharing was off on restart. I turned that on and it's working perfectly now. Very, very cool!

Nice... good luck.

dont get stoned and try to install php. it makes it really difficult.
