I've never dripped or deerheaded

there's nothing more depressing to me than looking through a design annual from ten or fifteen years ago

design is the guts of the beast, whereas style sits on the surface of the beast...yup
- F_180
rand, is it because you think the design is bad, or that the execution (style) isn't to your liking?
- ribit0
whoa there...execution isnt necessarily style...
- Rand0
realizing what a large percentage of the appeal rested in various "of the moment" moves that, with exposure, quickly lost their charm, no matter how competently executed

if you were an illustrator - style would be your income, and the design aspect would matter very little.
it's a fine line between illustrators and designers nowadays.
you are whatever you say you are, and no one can argue with it
- F_180
thats a good point rand. 10 years from now, i'd probably feel the same way about a lot of the "hot" work being circulated today.
- Rand0
no need to wait--take a look at some of the layered vector stuff everybody loved a few years ago now--highly skilled work that now suffers because it becamel part of a commoditized style

D vs S = Bone vs Flesh.
- F_180
you could argue the point that the entire process of design, not just style, is becoming commoditized.
but thats a different thread altogether.

fyi: the word is commodified
- F_180
not entirely.
- Rand0
I just make words up and hope they're real
- kingjulien0
Commoditized isn't a word Einstein.
- kingjulien0
but rand has earned the right to say whatever he wants. please continue.
- F_180
see rand's post above.
- Rand0
commodified is shorter, and has the benefit of being an actual word
