i went there two weeks ago, since it was kind of an impulsive trip, i didn't book anything. I ended up in an expensive hotelroom....
i went to look for a youth hostel but i ended up staying in my hotel because everything was either full, rediciouly expesive or only had dormitory(sp?) rooms
search google and you'll probably find something nice

thx!

Don't stay in Hotel Richard. The fat bastard who runs is a, err, bastard. And a mad woman prowls the corridors at night shouting at you in French.
bad joojoo

there's this reaaaally cheap hotel just below the Sacre Coeur. It's old and a bit faded (to say the least) but it has massive atmosphere. When i stayed there about i think 6 years ago i paid about 16 euro's per night. You need to share the bathroom with others but you have your own sink.
it is a legendary place since many artists and now students stay there. one of the famous guests that spent many nights there is Jacques Brel.
i lost the name of the place for now but if you ask for a hotel known for Jacques Brel in the neighbourhood of Sacre Coeur I am sure some locals should know!
it's also not far from Gare Du Nord.

tried to find it.. no luck.
anyway, it is in the MontMartre area, and a typical place for backpackers.. so just ask around there.

oh my.. december?
you better make reservations if you visit around xmas.

december? there should be bonfires in the centre by then, rioting youth is always fun to watch, right? just walk around a lot, visit as many galleries as possible, go to the centre georges pompidou, chill out in the jardin de luxembourgh, go to the southern university campus (nice architecture) if you've never been to the louvre, go there, if you have, don't........ Make sure you bring miles davis' soundtrack of 'ascenseur pour l'echafaud' and listen to it when walking on the champs elysee around midnight.
before you go watch some photo's made by ed van der elsken and robert doisneau made in the fifties (in the sorbonne area) and see the difference for yourself......
I just went there 2 weeks ago, i stayed in a hotel for 5 days and ate bread everyday (paris is expensive!!) anyway I enjoyed staying in the area around boulevard st. germain....
