i've been approached by someone who is interested in having me design their next album.
they are on metropolis records (an industrial/ebm label) and a friend told me they sell around 4,000 copies of each album usually. the artist is a friend of a friend.
what would you charge for the following:
1. cd package with 8-page booklet (a fold out with 4 panels on front, 4 on back).
2. cd package with simple double-sided insert instead of booklet.
thanks!

they would prob tell you to charge $5.00 for your hard work...not worth asking here. You should know how much your time, work is worth...

helloworld - if it could be found on sourceforge i would say do it for free just for fun, and it cant so charge 1k :)

Nathan, the Graphic Artists Guild Pricing & Ethical Guidelines recommends $1500-5000 for low run CD packaging. You may want to up your fees unless you're doing it as a favor or portfolio piece.

i saw that there was some mention of a pricing manual being worked on by someone (i am not an elephunt) but maybe a little digging would give you an idea.
I would suggest pricing on time/work load (indecive = more money) and subject matter. Are they prepared, or are you going to have to basically do everything, including concept and execution. Also, you don't want to be a dyck, so you might want to check with your friend to see what would be too much.
hope it helps

HelloWorld im using windows, mac os and linux, i use them for different things, and i would never choose mac os over linux cos at least linux is consistent and doesnt crash as much,
sorry to orginal thread owner

maybe just ask how much your mate is willing to pay and ask crate of beer on the top

Yeah, if he's a good friend I'd ask how much he can afford.
Who's paying? Him or the record company?
Also, I'd ask how quickly they need it.
More time = less money (fee). If he can wait while you work on other stuff, don't charge much.
