I'm sick sick sick of living in Tampa Bay. I've been here for 2.5 years now, and I feel trapped. If I don't do something soon I think I might find myself here for the rest of my life.
I have my AA, but I do need to finish up and get my B.F.A. more for myself than anything else.
I've been working in design for 2 years now, so I'm confident I can get a job in most places if I put in some effort. So the point of this thread...where should I go???
Some places I've considered:
Richmond, VA
ATL
Portland, OR
Colorado
Baltimore/DC (Previous Home)Any suggestions would be appreciated.

i understand your pain, but in different ways. My suggestion, consider the type of weather you like, make a list of places that might intreuge you, and then start reasearching them. Jobs, living conditions, etc. Then, using Tampa as a base, start exploring, take some trips to the places for a week, set up interviews, and other stuff. That way you can get the right idea of what can work for you. Worst thing to would to move someplace else on some strangers suggestion only to find yourself in the same situation.

I hear ya, I just don't see Tampa getting any better for me; I think it would've came around in 2.5 years, and it just hasn't for me.

i hear you. over all, I love DC (lived there for years) and it has a cool design community. there are better places though. i think Richmond blows, but that is a personal opinion but if you think Tampa is bad....
do you wish to live in a community, or be among one? with that i mean, do you want ot feel like you are invloved and active, or just living there because? if the latter, Arlington fills that bill w/ strides.
if it is design you are after, there is a world of possibilities outside those you listed. but i am sure those places have a meaning to you beyond what i would know.
good luck.

No, it's not design that's motivating me to move to another city, although I have no intention of changing my profession anytime soon, so it is fairly important that there is a strong design community. I think I would like to be a part of the community and make a difference, and I don't want to be in Arlington; most of my family is there, and I'd like to keep my distance for the sake of being on my own.

Ever consider Europe? If I had to live somewhere in the US, it would definitely be San Fran or with some hesitation, NYC...

cool, all great points.
man, it seems like Colorado is becoming the new SF of 2000. :) it is great there though, and all those kids will chime in once they wake up and get the cold shaken out of 'em here....
good luck again with the choice.
- madirish0
and if i were making this choice again, i would most likely be headed to Scandinavia w/o hesiitation....

I love SF, but god it's expensive

I don't know much about Europe, only ever been to Ireland. I liked it but it didn't seem so easy to live in, maybe I'm wrong.
I'm just sick of strip malls, wack city commissioners and the abundance of uneducated people in general down here.Jazx, I've been sober for 12 hours.

tampa bay's ok, although i haven't been there in a couple of years and hear its turning into a condo nightmare.
consider boston, denver, san fransisco...depends on what you look for in a town.
- Sven_sk0
i've heard that idaho is the new south dakota
and that utah is the new idaho
plus you get all the mormons you can shake a stick at
ps. mormons minus one M equals morons

I love boston. It, too, is expensive

Yeah, I read that book Under the Banner of Heaven, now I have no desire to even step foot in Utah, unless to go snowboarding.
