Talking to myself to keep thread alive.
ME:
Who are you?METAGRAMME:
New guy on NT. Had a beard before most people heard of Sam Beam. Live near STL/MO/USA, looking for a ride to CA.ME:
What's with the shameless self-promo?METAGRAMME:
Starting a business and/or looking for a real job. Got tired of looking at other designer's websites. Trying to see how long I can go without saying 'branding'....dammit.
ME:
Anything you'd change about metagramme.com?METAGRAMME:
Why does Flash have to violate an innocent screen font like Georgia? Next time I'll do design AND back-end.ME:
So go learn Flash.METAGRAMME:
On it. Can you spot me ca. $1000? My demo ran out.ME:
No. You know, you're an awful interviewee.METAGRAMME:
Yeah, well you're an awful interviewer. It's like talking to myself. This will never get published.

Haven't look at it properly yet but if you're going to do a kind of fullscreen window at least make it fit the swf, y'know.
Looks like it would fit in a 1024x768 window anyway, so why the pop-up?
FF / XP
- gramme0
made it pop-up to avoid business from favorites, history folders etc. in browsers like IE.
Why I wanted window bigger than SWF: breathing room.
My specialty is in print. I designed the site in Illu, hired someone to translate into Flash. Am learning Flash eventually, but I need a job right now. Overall I'm happy, tho the splash page was supposed to be centered. It only does that in IE, Safari centers it at top.
Plus some of the paragraph text isn't crisp. Web designer says unavoidable. I say come again??
Any ideas why this happens?
Apologies in advance for being a dolt about web design.
- Jnr_Madison0
The window DOESNT fit the swf, some space would of been nice right now it cuts it off.

'made it pop-up to avoid business from favorites, history folders etc. in browsers like IE'
No sure what you mean here.
With regards to the text blur, I haven't seen it on the site but I'm guessing it's not on whole pixels (if you don't know flash then this will mean nothing too you).
- gramme0
hmm that's not good. I'm on a 15" Powerbook @ 1280 x 854, pretty common size. It seems to fit on my end...the guy I worked with said the size shouldn't be a problem. All he does is Flash sites
:S

splash page- set the image at the bottom to border=none
- gramme0
Sorry, I meant busy-ness from sidebars, I use Safari which is fairly minimal but most other browsers like IE have things that crowd a regular window.
Does that make more sense?
I've heard of the 'whole pixel' issue. I just assumed the guy I hired had too. Maybe an easy fix?

eek
- gramme0
besides technicalities.
Thoughts on the work?
thanks

the work is real nice. rework the site and you should be golden.
- gramme0
Thanks shilohous.
Ideas on the best fix for the fitting issues? My web designer set it to always fit the window @ 100%, but it looked choppy when he did that. There's a gray border around the swf. Maybe I could thin that out a bit...
I sent out about 30 self-promo mailers which will arrive on desks this week. I'd like to have the website as technically sound as the print pieces they'll see.
kinda freaking out right now :X

Remove "Click Logo To Enter" make the logo a rollover so it's obvious that you click it to enter.
Some real nice work in the protfolio. The one thing I can't stand in a portfolio is the designers own id, business cards etc....
I don't mind the pop up, it would be nice if it self centered.

They are very easily fixed gramme and wont take long at all, I'd do them myself for you but it's 3.34am and I need to get up in 4hrs - maybe some kind person on here will lend a hand.
nite.

i would at least make it fit in 1024 x 768. And if you must have a splash/launch page. you should really work on it. that logo is bloody huge. and when you compare the look of it and the site to the work you showcase, it seems out of sorts.
the work is so clean, the site seems rushed.my 2 cents.
there is very solid work in there though. you should be proud
- gramme0
the swf is supposed to be 1024 x 768
grr what the hell...*
*grinding teeth
i so wish i could go back to school. took 1 class in web design my junior year in school, did 3 years exclusively print work & promptly forgot all web knowledge :(
