Anthrax!! Yes!!! Although I think Persistence of Time was a better 90's disc from them..
And yes, Jethro Tull did win a metal grammy. They're kinda metal...da da daa da da dum (hums rif from Aqualung)..well, OK, they're not..but lots of metalheads have Aqualung in our collections, just like we have Pink Floyd and some wayward Blue Oyster Cult cds as well - they're like metal by association..you know more Heavy than Metal per se..
hehehe...

AC/DC? Legendary band and all but C'mon man...there best stuff was BiB and DDDDCAnd Metallica's Box set? Sorry a greatest hits package doesn't qualify for best metal album of the 90's...
- grayhood0
it was not so much a greatest hits as their first live record. but if you want to stick to studio then justice.
agreed not acdc's best but still better then alot of the crap that came out in the 90s

What is not metal:

So now that Nu-Metal is dead, what is new metal?
I suggest Metal 2.0
Oh, and anything released by Ronnie James Dio or Manowar, no matter how subpar or crappy, should still be on the list of best 90's metal somewhere. You know, they're representing the Legacy.

(Dec 29 05, 10:20)but AC/DC are just a bunch of jack offs?
- fullerc0
what was that song that was one huge guitar solo then at the end they just said "I'm board"?
- TheTick0
Hey, did I call AC/DC "jackoffs"? No, I called them "Legendary". Please quote me correctly.
Are AC/DC metal? Sure in a late 70's, early 80's riff rock/boogie kind of way, but Dio and Manowar? Unquestionably "Metal". No question about their street metal cred no matter how ridiculous they are.

You mean "I'm Bored" by Death Angel off the Frolic in the Park disc?
- grayhood0
i am just saying if Dio gets a special no matter how cheesy clause, ACDC should get non-stop god status. thats all.

SHOTMAKER !!!!
the full discography - tho most will say this isn't metal

I didnt list Aenima bc I think Undertow is better. Aenima is really funny, but its not as sonicly amazing as undertow. Especially for its time. when undertow came out, it completely stood apart from the crowd and it sounded soooo good.
You got me on Justice. I thought it was released in 89 somehow. Not sure I would put it in my list tho. I might want to replace the black album with it. If I made it top ten I certainly would. Justice sounds REALLY bassey tho. Dont get me wrong, I love Justice, but I kinda feel like Pantera's Vulgar has that same bassey kind of sound, but Pantera somehow managed do it slightly better.
I forgot about soundgarden. Does anyone count them as metal??? I kinda dont count the seattle bands as metal. I hate to say it but I just feel like none of them were really heavy metal. Some were very hard rock like AIC and SG, but theres this fine line of heaviness that creates METAL. I just feel like they dont cross the hard rock line and go into the heavy metal world. Again both are great bands and I love them both tho.

OK, fine, fine, AC/DC is too good to quiblle if they make the list then..fine the entire 90's catalog of AC/DC goes onto the list as well...

Look, Grunge for the most part was metal, for the most part. Sure, I know Nirvana and Mudhoney weren't exactly (gee, but Dabe Grohl certainly made his Probot metal tribute album, so what was he listening too...hmmm?)
Soundgarden? Was Led Zeppelin meets Sabbath.
AIC? I'd say metal. You can split hairs but like say Mother Love Bone was trying to be Jane's Addiction meets GnR and then turned into Pearl Jam, who for at least one album was kinda metal.
Was Jane's metal? Faith No More? Living Colour? I'd say yup, but that's me...
- grayhood0
sweet.
also sound garden is not metal, good band though.
- TheTick0
I'd say SoundGarden, of all the Seattle bands were the most metal and the most original..I could draw a direct line between them and Sabbath and Zepplin..so they're building on proto-metal at it's finest..and they really started the whole drop tuning thing which so many crap nu-metal bands took to heart...
