I have an 18 pg PDF that I need to send to a potential job contact. I laid it out in InDesign CS on my Mac, I never got around to figuring out Acrobat Distiller for CS. What's the best way to crank down the size of that 21 meg PDF without compromising too much on resolution? I've been using the PDF X1-A setting from within InDesign, which works great for print PDFs but the file's obviously way too big.
Thanks very much in advance!

you dont need distiller
you could cut down your file size down with in Indesign.
there is a limit on jpeg dpi rate for pdf setting in ID

If you have the full version of Acrobat...
Advanced > PDF Optimizer
reduce the resolution.

Tickle its bunghole. That will make it pucker and reduce size.

or what Dinky said.

Try lower and lower dpi in the export dialog. It'll be a custom export setting. If you have a lot of illustrator files placed, try rastorizing some of them.

gramme, your method, is virtually the same as that mentioned in mayo's comment. but acrobat does offer some nice optimization features, especially if you choose Tools > PDF Optimizer > Clean Up > Check REMOVE PRIVATE DATA FROM OTHER PROGRAMS
This might help, good luck.

I honestly didn't know that distiller even existed anymore...

ya i figure it's pretty useless now.

why not just use the screen setting in InDesign?
It should do the trick - just for previewing right?
