i have had bad experince with the last two epsons i have brought.. build quality is shocking and ink prices are very steep.
my next printer will be a HP

our print suppliers tell us never to buy an epsons. they always reccomend hp. they told us epsons break all the time and are more expensive to replace and fix.
its all true.

I'll never buy an HP again. Horrible things.
Epsons on the other hand I have found to be reliable and quality.
Epson vs HP.
gogogogo

all i am saying is it costs alot less to fill up my car than change the color ink on my epson printer.

we used to have all epsons in work. they all used to break and jam.
since we replaced them all with hps we have had 1 problem in the full year with 1 printer. they are by far superiour printers.
in saying that, ive never even seen the R220 so i dunno. i have an old epson at home that hasnt caused me any problems at all.
i know this isnt helping matters... ill shut up now.

I've got a 220, and I have to say ...
IT ROCKS!edge to edge photographic quality A4 prints for less than a quid each.
monster.

I've only had Epsons, so I don't know, but I've never had a problem with them.
Just got a Photo R800 and it rocks so far. Fast, quiet, superb quality.
I also have a photo 960 which you can't buy the ink for ANYWHERE but the Epson store. Worth looking into, I have to buy in bulk (not a huge deal, they ship it really fast for free, probably actually saves money as there is no tax and their prices are as cheap as anywhere).

I bought one yesterday (R220) and I must say at the moment I'm less than impressed based on the reviews I've read. Photos are coming out very very pixellated around edges.
I don't know if it's just a settings issue I've not fixed just yet but it's not a promising start. Colours seem accurate and it's pretty quick for the price but I need to find out quick sharp if the pixellation is going to occur on all photos.

there should be a small loss of quality around the edges but not really noticable.
try cleaning. using epson paper, setting everything to high, making sure you set the paper in the settings. and finally resorting to violence.

I've just set everything to best quality, I've got some different paper I'll try in a bit but it's very pixellated still. Will let you know but initial prints don't look promising!

i have an r800 too, is working since almost 2 years now...
never had a problem.
quality is very good.
i don't know if there is a comparable hp printer out at the moment ( at least there wasn't any when i bought it) only canon

Part of the company I work for is an epson express centre. Basically if its broken but still under warranty it gets brought here and we fix it. But if we cant fix it then the customer gets given a refurbished model. Imagine if your printer is only a month old and you get a refurbished one back. Bollocks to that.. Epsons policy sucks. Not too many R220s returned though.

I didn't need to "use" my hammer to "fix" it. It seems it's actually the shite epson paper that came with the printer that's to blame. I'm glad I ordered some cannon paper at the same time and my god what a difference it makes. No pixellation and very sharp prints. Better than I've had from online photo developers in the past.
Not yet tried A4 though, just 4"x6" size.

I have an R220 I just bought in November. Love that I can print direct to CDs.
And, FYI to you all complaining about ink prices...

For the R220 - $40 vs. $62 direct from Epson for the full ink package.Never tried generic ink, but will soon.
