Great news, I guess today is one of those days (inspirational days)
Couple of great threads, great news!

Thanks guys. After I posted I was sitting back thinking how 5 years had to pass in order to provide you with just a few minutes of entertainment. Kinda weird, and kinda cool.
I do wear swimming trunks to work in the summer sometimes, but I meet with clients pretty regularly and try to look presentable so it doesn't happen that often. I guess I've become a conformist to some extent.
I live and work in San Diego. I think there's enough work here for anyone who's passionate about making it happen.
That initial post also got me thinking I gotta install Unreal Tournament again. I haven't played that game in years. Truth be told even then I wasn't much of a gamer.
And me and the capn - we'll make a BLAH night happen! Maybe other SD QBNr's too!

I'm glad for your graduation to the work force and the adultz, but cautions: I thought only teens started conversations with "you probably hate me already".
Rock on.
...wait, swimming trunks to work?
Lucky bastard.

UPDATE on "an update...": This update is inspired based off of the thread at http://www.qbn.com/topics/579601… and the comments made within. Especially Jaline's who said we all need to update old threads. It made me think of this one.
Just re-read my initial post that was made nearly 5 years ago.
Now I am happily married to that "wonderful lady," I happily work for myself, and I have what I feel like is something resembling a career in web design/development.
I don't feel like an "adult" yet, but definitely closer to it than before. I work my ass off, but most of the time I enjoy what I do. I am fortunate enough to have both a home office in my apartment and some shared office space in a coworking unit downtown. I feel lucky to have 2 places to work, and it provides a nice balance between work life and home life as a freelancer.
I am still learning new stuff all the time (or at least I try to), and the technology I use continues to inspire me to try new things (at least sometimes!).
I've stopped worrying too much about the future and "establishing" myself, and instead I try to concentrate on the present and doing the best that I can while making sure that I enjoy life. That style of living does have a few drawbacks, but I don't have any regrets (yet).
I don't make "a lot," but I make "enough." It's probably less than you think. Almost, everyone makes less than what they're really worth and it sucks, but I've kind of gotten over it. I know people with a lot more money and a lot less happiness. I wouldn't trade places with them.
I haven't been snowboarding in 3 or 4 years and I don't really ride skateboards anymore, but I've been to 3 new countries and 3 new states, and now have a collection of 5 or 6 bikes in the garage in various states of repair. I still play my same Taylor acoustic guitar which gives me comfort after long days, but have yet to record any of my sketches for songs. I'll never get rid of that guitar.
I still haven't left my hometown and I don't have any plans to do so. In fact, my wife and I are hoping to buy a condo in the next year or two.
I know all of these things are kind of personal and I usually don't share stuff like this, but I do so in hopes of inspiring others the way some people on here have inspired me over the years.
Thanks for reading.

welcome to your carlsberg years...
we've been expecting you
:)congrats on the new found joy...
many of us here bounced from gig to gig in design for years before we finally found good jobs where the money was right and the work atmosphere was good...
it can take a while, but its a good life being a designer..
lets face it, as hard as it can be sometimes, at the end of the day, we're payed well to play on a computer making cool pictures...which is kind of my definition of a dream job..
:)
lurk no more my friend!...
cheers
