Public garbage cans are rare. Do not eat/drink on the streets.
That should get you through the day.

Oh yeah - you should spend more thasn a day in Kyoto if you can. Awesome city...the train station rocks and all the temples, etc...and check out the old geisha district, althoug hthey're called geicko or something like that in the Kyoto dialect..

try not to stay in roppongi, its just full of annoying aussie backpackers and lame tourists looking for titty bars.
Also, what do you mean by 'daytrip to kyoto?' - you should not expect to travel there, look around and come back in one day, well you could, but you wont see much, the sites are pretty spaced about and some of them take a while to look about. the 1000 statues place is worth a visit tho for sure.
- TheTick0
Yeah - I second the not staying in roppongi idea...

luckyy i wanna go to tokyo too
- rasko40
The little streets of harajuku in tokyo are well worth a wander also.
- TheTick0
Oh this is good too:
- tkmeister0
if roppongi, would stay in roppongi hills. really really nice hotel. but that's about it.
shibuya, harajuku seems to be where things are happening.
kyoto is cool. but you need to stay there at least a night. it's well worth heading down there.
- jpolk0
yeah, re: roppongi...
the hotel is a gift, so i've gotta at least sleep there, but, i was kinda hoping to stay in shibuya or shinjuku... cannot complaint about free digs though.
- jpolk0

mg33 - same deal, I'm going for about 10 days, staying with an ESL teacher friend, but the cheapest I can find tickets is $1290.

Kyoto kicks ass.

Personally I found people inkyoto snobbish and cold, I also found the transport to have teh suck and the nightlife to be small.
Osakans were WAY more friendly and up for a beer and some down to earth living, good peoples. Tokyo is just mad hectic big city style. Its all good though.
