it's a good business move for Google to get in to China and establish itself, even if they're censored to all hell.
china's political scene will evolve (which way who knows), and Google is willing to suffer the initial pr damage in order to have a prime slice of the pie down the road
name one major global corporation that doesn't pursue multiple strategies in multiple political climates around the world

Jaline do you have any idea about the political regime of China?

Rasko, I know what you're saying. That I don't know exactly what's going on in China. Of course I don't, but I have an idea. And I do listen to different news stations and radio stations, each one having a different opinion about issues.

Hopefully Google will become increasingly powerful in China and eventually be in a position to stand up to its government.
This was just the first step.

------------------------"The new interface - google.cn - started at midnight last night and will be slowly phased in over the coming months. Although users will have the option of continuing to search via the original US-based google.com website, it is expected that the vast majority of Chinese search enquiries will go through mainland-based servers."
i don't know - i hate the internet.
