Flying to Seattle

Had a phone interview with a killer firm in Seattle, they like my book and want me to fly out there for a more formal interview.
I got the vibe that I'd be footing the bill for that one...which is odd because they are a sizable firm & have clients with deep pockets. Should I ask them to hook a brother up with a ticket? Or go halves? I'm kinda broke right now, but I'd wrestle a smelly Yeti for that job.

If you don't ask you don't get.
Ask politely if the flight will be paid for by them, or, if you will have to pay for it, then maybe get paid back once hired.
Be cool about it.
And good luck with the interview.

Thanks gramme... ditto.
I was only asking because I worked at FB in Toronto and I know they just opened an office in Seattle.
Good luck!

So I just got a response:
"Hi Matt,
We'd expect you to cover your own travel and expenses for the trip. The good
news for you is that it's tax deductible (job search expenses).Let me know when you've confirmed travel."
What?!? Is this normal for design firms? These people have some massive clients and are supported by a big parent company! I ain't made of money...being unemployed for 4 months with only sporadic freelance so far makes gramme a poor boy

you may not be the only other finalist for the job.
they may have the perspective of "why should we drop cash on soneone we dont know to be a gurantee."
could also be one of those, how badly does he want it deals, too.

For the job I'm going for in HK, they will be paying for my flight from Australia to HK. depends on the company I guess.

say hi to all the Seahawks fans for me, I'll be at Super Bowl XL with my brothers
- gramme0
meh. Well I do want it, just bought the plane tickets, but I won't expect relocation if they offer me the job...which would suck since the logistics of moving from Missouri to WA are no picnic and I'm broke.

they are reading this right now, and not going to hire based on the fact that you need us to help you.

That's kinda lame. They should cover the expense for you. Still, if the opportunity is good, it's probably worth finding and/or borrowing the $$ to make it happen. I live in Seattle and it is a lot of fun, just hope you don't mind the rain:)
