I got a brand new G5 at work today and it crashed after three hours. I haven't had a PC crash in years.
Maybe it was my fault, I'm not that good around macs, but I have a couple of questions about how stuff works on a mac vs. how it works in windows:
1. In a dialogue box, is there a way to jump between buttons (Save, don't save, cancel etc.) back and forth (not using the tab key)?
2. Is there a way to see keyboard shortcuts (like when you press the alt key in windows and the shortcut key is underlined)?
3. Is there a way to see the title of all your windows when they're all overlapping on the desktop (i.e. the taskbar in Windows)?
4. Is there a way to switch between all windows, including the minimized ones?
Thank you thanks.

turn on exposé in your system preferences for window and app switching and set your hot corners. once you get used to it, you'll wonder how you managed without it.
the keyboard shortcuts are listed under the pull downs in in the menu bar at the top of each app to the right of the functions. they're usually the same as the windows versions of the apps, with alt being the apple/command key instead.

for dialog boxes, it really depends on the app, but the escape key is usually equivalent to cancel, and command-d is often "don't save". this is something i wish was more like windows.

1. Save - apple s,
Dont Save - Apple d
Cancel - Apple period2. Dont know
3 & 4. F9, F10, F11, F12 if youre using os10.4
one hides/shows them all, one shaw all windows open small, one shows program specific windows small

i know it sounds funny, but read the osx manual that comes with the machine... it makes it so easy. it takes about 3 months to be rippin on a mac after a switchover, using it everyday...
learning about expose, moving around windows, saving, preferences and shit, takes a bit of time... the os is very easy, once you make it your best friend.... lol

Ah, exposé, of course! I even installed an exposé clone on my PC, but I still forgot about that one :)

Day 2 here with the ne mac. More questions:
A) Can you make the home and end keys work in all textfields (like the browser adress bar for instance, FF)?
B) How do you create a new folder in a selected folder in a save-dialogue? Or for that matter, how do you make tthe right-click menu work? (Also FF)

Oh, and another one: I wan't to open a server on the network every time I log in, so I made my first automator file. How do I actually make it run on log in? I can't find this in the help document :(
- ribit0
add it to the login items in SysPrefs > Accounts?

"How do you create a new folder in a selected folder in a save-dialogue?"
You might want to try Default Folder:
http://www.stclairsoft.com/Defau…I've used it for years...one of the essentials if you have a lot of stuff to deal with..
"Or for that matter, how do you make tthe right-click menu work? (Also FF)"
its not working by default? What function?

In System Preferences > Keyboard and mouse > Keyboard shortcuts, select 'All controls in the bottom 'Full keyboard access' setting for being able to switch with tab. You can also simply turn it on by typing 'Control' and 'F7' at the same time.A)
I would look in the same System Preferences pane, to add a shortcut. The basic one for home in Safari is Apple Shift H *as shown in the 'History Menu'.B)
Apple Shift N, the same as everywhere else in the system. For the server thing, i think you can add that automator file in your Login items in the 'Accounts' preference pane. You could also simply drag the server folder in your sidebar, and if you've saved your server login it will simply display the folder as if it was local, which is what i did since my computer at work asks for a password at login.
The Mac help is not too bad to check out, too. It uses Spotlight, unlike the printed manual. In Finder, Help menu.

OK, so I just discovered the PostScript Helvetica bug in dashboard, is there any cure for this out yet?
