I have 2 job offers, one from a firm in DC that has been featured in Graphis, How & Print; I'd be taking on mid-level responsibilities. The other offer is from a firm here in STL, they're work isn't quite as good but there is a lot of room for opportunity. They tell me their strategy is driven by designers. Oh and I'd be considered a senior designer and paid $9,000 more. With a lower cost of living.
What should I do? Money/more responsibility/not moving vs. moving/great firm w/ proven excellence/less money????
Ah and my GF is in WI, which is only 5.5 hours away from here. ARRGGGHH!!

DC is better than STL.

DC? Word. That's a rough city, man.

I grew up in B'more, lived near the ghetto there so DC don't scurr me...maybe I should ask the people in DC if they could match the firm here...they're only 3 people strong so that's doubtful
oh and the DC firm has a no-freelance agreement that I'd have to sign

Dude, how you gonna get Toasted Ravs in DC? You KNOW you're gonna be jonesing! Think about the Provel, man, the PROVEL.
Seriously. Do what feels right. I live in the STL and think it's great. This city has a lot to offer, but hey DC is the buttplug of the world, and that's saying something. Ya know?

money. dc is full of suckage.

no freelance agreement = no way

i think friends and family (and of course the girlfriend) is more important than the amount of money. the quality of work (and what work you would be doing) is probably a bigger issue.
biggest question i guess you should consider is would you regret (later in life) not taking the job in DC? or vice versa. there are always positives and negatives to every situation...but usually the one with more risks makes you regret less later but hurt more in the present : )

Redskins over Rams
but Cardinals over Nationals hmmm

go for the career advancement.
(that is to say, stay in STL)a senior position looks better on your resume than a 3 man shop. Even if it is well known.

gramme, i suggest you moving to nyc so we can smoke blunts and reminiss about the days when you were going to move to DC or STL!!!
plus you can get paid your hearts desire here and spend it all on rent and parking!!!!
:)

Being from Baltimore, d*mn dude, DC should be a breeze for you.

thanks for the advice guys! And now to confuse the issue further, I have an interview tomorrow with the best design firm in STL. If they offer me a job, golden. Otherwise...I think I'm leaning towards DC, better work/cooler people. Bye-bye cool loft apt., tho.
If only I could bring the GF with me :(
tho she would come out my way eventually...the meantime would SUCK, since I think she's *the one*
