i've been approached a few timers recently from bands and their managers wanting me to design various things for them. (tees, mostly)
this has forced me to come up with a price list for small bands. problem is i know these bands have no money and i dunno what the standard is for this sort of thing.
this is what i have now:
Logo: $450
CD Packaging: $1500
T-Shirts: $95
Promo Flyers: $95
Posters: $200
Website: $1000-2500anyone have experience with small bands? should i adjust any of this? i tend to sell myself cheap, so i thought i'd check with some other designers.
pricing is in us dollars and is targeted in los angeles

take their sisters as payment

it's all going to be different, do some haggling with them and get the most that you can. your prices seem about right for a small band.

I do stuff for bands for alot cheaper. Usually get in to shows for free and such. But I do it cheap cause I like it more then most of my other clients work. But most of them are friends.

cool, anyone else have experience with this?

oh to add stuff to my other comment...guestlists are good if the band is decent you can see some of the better local bands for free if your into the scene that is.

all those prices seem comparable to the work i did in SF

Yeah, your prices seem right. Plus, you have some really nice work so I'm sure the work you do for them will be worth it.

I have done logos for cheaper, and poster and flyers at more expensive prices.
but it's good to compare prices with other people.
I'm in SD and I have done flyer for LA events.
Logos I did for 300
Flyers 250But not for bands, more for Drum n bass djs / events.

also I have done DVD packaging for a lot less..
wow..Like 900, is what you posted the standard price?

i do stuff for bands, and it depends on the band really. i try in work in the punk scene so bands that have no label i go a lot cheaper with. bands that are on a label, your prices seem about right. maybe a grand for a cd package, depending on how much work it is.

The great scarabin asking questions? Just do it for cigarettes.

Good luck with that pricing, it's definitely fair, but I doubt the band will have that much cake. I remember the going price in Toronto for CD packaging was something like $400 - 600...

maybe something like this would be more reasonable?
(all w/ original art)
Logo: $225
CD Jewel Case Packaging: $700
6-panel booklet, traycard, discCD Digipak Packaging: $350
T-Shirts (2-4 colors): $85
Posters: $250
Event Flyers: $175
Website: $1200
music/media, photo gallery, about/bio, tour, contact sections

what is that? us$? u are making money on that side of the ocean, bloody hell...
- mr_snuggles0
definitely, but try for your first estimate, maybe they have a rich father?

doesn't the label pay for the cd packaging?

If you're in a good market the bands may have money... My experience around here is you have to be a little more creative with your pricing.
Logo: Sack of Nugs
T-Shirts: Free admission + drinks, free t-shirt
Posters: Case of beer+ bottle of liquor of choice
Website: Free admission + Night with at least 1 groupie + drugs neccessary to get groupie to spend night with you

Didn't read all the responses yet, but I can tell you this...your prices are waaaay too high for these small bands you speak of.
I've been there before. Unless its your friend or a group you admire, its really just not worth it to work with these type of people because they are total flakes and you always wind up having to settle for less $$$. I must have gotten the "we just spent 2.5K in the studio and have no money" excuse from 5 different bands before. Once I hear that I let em down nice and easy and point them to templatemonster.
Then again...it does give you a chance to have nearly total creative freedom and a potentially awesome site that's totally your own in your portfolio so for those reasons it can be worth it.
I guess just don't go into the deal expecting to make very much. Don't get me wrong I think your prices are totally fair (probably low even) but it seems to me that most bands won't drop more than $500 for a website.

good luck with that, I doubt any of the bands I have worked for would've had that money..
I build websites for bands for something like 300$, which was more like a symbolic payment (cause i dig their stuff)
something like this:
- index_html0
that should've read
"I have built"
not something I'm eager to repeat
