I need to find a contemporary serif that has a similar feel to Fedra Serif, but I don't have 700 beans to shell out for that beaut. Any suggestions???
danke.

ok peanut gallery,
the client is a guy that does 'surface enhancement' for the home. He makes custom hand-torn wallpapers, gold leafing, furniture restoration and customization, as well as a number of really cool textures and finishes for walls, ceiling ornament...lotta stuff. Some Old World influences, but a lot of his stuff has a contemporary vibe.
so, for the logotype I'm thinking:

or

His old system uses Mrs. Eaves, which is kinda played out/quaint and a bit feminine for him.

(Mar 1 06, 10:05)I really like Chalet from that list!

Chalet's nice, but not for this dood.

Fedra is premium, but you don't need to spend $700 to get one weight. $70. Not bad for something you're using in an identity. So if it's the best face for the job, don't let the price get in the way.

(Mar 1 06, 10:15)Point taken. I'm thinking some of the Fedra Serif B weights would be better for an ID with their larger x-height, esp. since all I'm doing right now is logo + stationery, no??
- Typographica0
It's depends on the personality of the company. The smaller x-height is more elegant. The larger x-height is generally designed for small text.
