Yo amigos, i was wondering what you think would be a best solution to this dilema. My friend and i are about to starts small film production company called Cinetaur Productions, LLC and we are looing for a tight logo to go with it. Since we are startup with little money up front we were thinking of hitting local colleges and find someone who would do it for like $250. You think it's reasonable? If no, what other possibilities do we have????

The first step would be to do some research and realize that you'll probably have to change your name.

we did, our friend who's a lawyer said it's fine (his is Cinetaur Film..). SO name is clear.

find a friend or friend of a friend who'll do it pro-bono? or offer some sort of creative compensation (what else do you have to offer?
finding a student could be great, but it could be a quick waste of $250.
and of course, you get what you pay for

Find someone you like or someone you know whose work you also like. Cut the following deal:
If you do our logo pro-bono, you get right of first refusal for any other graphical needs.
Make a contract for that, they will trust you more. And then-you have a great realtionship for everything else.

I'll do it for $250. Email me.

so you do not care that your name is totaly ununique and pretty much identical to a company who does the same thing as you?
- digitalswarm0
That's what I'm saying.
And this dude has some experience under his belt. Why don't you just call yourselves the minotaurs.

guys teh other email isn't working, try this one:

the other dude isn't doing anything special google onetaur and you still get to our site first (in the making so still hardly working ... and total rip of my personal site...) still. The name is registered and setled so it's like talking about spilled milk.
- digitalswarm0
You still have to clean up spilled milk... If you don't, it turns to real shit.

Guys, it doesn;t really matter. He's not Pepsi, he's not 2A. In film production, no one gives a shit about the company name (except Pixar), it's all about the talent: driector, DP, producer, etc...
- digitalswarm0
harlqunio, any business cares about the name.
They have people that only look out for their name and image.
This is a bad idea. You have the same fucking name as ANOTHER film company. Doesn't that register with you?
- harlequino0
I'll agree to disagree with you mate.
I've talked to a thousand small prod and post companies all with the words Media and Light in their name. No one cares. First ques for someone: Whos yer director? editor? DP?
That's what goes in the blackberry.
- visualplane0
I'm not crazy about Cinetaur as well
- digitalswarm0
harlequino, I will agree to disagree. I see what you're saying. I just think it's a safer bet, lawsuit wise to go this route. Especially if you know beforehand that the same name exists.
And, I agree with visualplane.

the way i see it unless we are talking really big like Dreamworks or Universal, the name doesn't mean shit. In the metings it will mean more to say that we are a production company making music videos and commercails and shit rather then the name of the company. So your points are taken, though through, and time to move on.

BTW, some of your emails bounce...

cine= movement
taur =(metanalyzed from centaur),
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tau…here's the best:
"In furry fiction and art, -taur is highly productive as a suffix."
