A decent read - Running my own company, I find that there is no one else you can rely on to motivate you.
I've been OK for the most part, but occasioanaly find myself ebbing and flowing in the motivation department.
Thoughts?

Never work at home, eat, sleep and work in the same place is one of the most demotivating things you can do imo.
Go to at cafe or rent a desk somewhere if you are working solo.

See I work from home, but my office is downstairs, well away from my bedroom which is on the 3rd level.
I wake up shower, leave the hose for breakfast at a local cafe, then return home for work. Seems to be working fine.
I fact when I'm out, I can't wait to get back in here and get working...

A stunning blog entry which could surely be filed under the "stating the obvious" category.
All of that stuff has been written and re-written countless times.

I find the same, I always work better away from home like at a cafe or something, When I am at school in the computer labs I also find it hard to work.

Sort of related to what you're talking about...
I went to a Copywriting seminar last week on Thursday and Friday. I'm doing much more writing at work and it's a blast that our company pays for us to do outside training/learning during the year.
I studied Advertising in college and loved writing, always have.
This seminar totally woke me up to what I'm good, made me realize what things I need to concentrate on in my career, and just generally inspiring the living hell out of me.I totally needed it and felt like a new person afterwards. New ideas, new goals, new excitement about creativity and purpose and how I need to put everything I can into what I do work wise and my own artwork, portfolio, etc. to get where I'd like to be.
Anyhow, one think I learned about creativity:
Statistically, it takes 90 minutes to generate an idea well, with brainstorming, writing, sketching, etc. and it usually happens best away from where you typically work.Plannning for 90 minutes of time at a point in the day to dump all your ideas out for project can make a big difference. I did that today and got way more written and planned out than if I were at my desk, and NT. :D

when I freelance at home here is pretty much how 3 hours of work goes.
2 hours of playing string with the cat who has jumped up on my desk about 60 times.
30 minutes of work.
30 minutes going to the bathroom after drinking so much water.
It's so fuckin hard for me lately to get any work done at home, and I have 2 large web projects looming over my head. Ugh.
I'm hoping to get one finished this week/weekend but who the fuck am I kidding.

(Mar 28 06, 03:20)i do that all the time lately.
esp. when i feel demotivated.a lot of bars have wifi, and one very good lunchbar and bookstore offers free unlimited wifi. and the coffee and sammiches are very good as well. it hurts the wallet a little, but then i get more done, and mostly, i feel much happier. as i meet people and chat a bit with them. mostly with staff though, as they know me well by now. ;)

Yeah for the most parts I can get stuff done, I usually don't have a problem working at home... but if I am having a rough day (not wanting to work)
--a great workout always fixes it or just going outside.
It can be done, it just takes disciplnine.
