is using frames on websites still a taboo?
any good examples of good frame usage, especially something where they slice graphics in frames, just like u do with tables.
gratefully,
Soulfly

i can't think of one site I visit every day that uses frames.

I have to use frames for a project I'm working on right now.
The client wouldn't allow me to build the page entirely in CSS as there are still some browsers out there that can't handle certain elements.
So I'm building the page as a hybrid. CSS and HTML tables/frames (only on one page).
Really, if you want my honest opinion... who cares?
The only guy who will ever compliment you on a 100% CSS site is some web nurd on a design blog.... the client will never know the difference as long as his site works.
Lets be honest with each other here.
Build what works and what the client will be happy with and who gives a damn what a designer on a blog says about you using frames, and or tables.

well put, k0na.

frames = junk
iframes = ok, if used wisely.

I agree as well, although it can be more than 'okay' to use iframes, especially if you have big graphics and you want them to load just once, instead of multiple times.
Plus, if you're updating the site by using Notepad, you just have to alter the info once instead of having to open individual pages to edit everything.
As you can tell, I used to love using iframes.

I think I said it best when i said.
"not anymore, chickens!"

basically, what kona said, but you really have to consider what the client needs.. a traffic-heavy site with lotsa search engine optimization would be a mess with (i)frames
for a company site, I'd never do it, for a band site without a moment of hesitating

You can't think of a site you use everyday that does't use frames?

Only joking :)

Im using iframes on my folio, just seemed easier for updating.
I'm sure there is some div display trickery that could do the same thing....

for easy updating use php includes. simple as fuck. hardly have to know any php for this..
can have the same effect as frames, but without the negative effects..
- kelpie0
search engines linking to frames can sometimes be a problem (hitting the frame rather than the parent page) but I'm sure there's a way round it...

btw i need to change an old site,
which had frames.. *sighanyway, what javascript do i need if you end up in a frame instead of the complete frameset?
google gave me nothing..

Crouwel speaks the truth, as always.. despite his being a Dutchman.
Check out this article for an easy PHP tutorial..
- Crouwel0
can the dutchman get an answer though?
- Nairn0
you mean to prevent people targetting your frames directly, crouwel? if so, the code at the bottom of this page..
- Crouwel0
thx nairn but i cannot find it.
can someone please post a link without a shite load of blahblahblah on a page and jsut the clean fucking code? PUHLEASE?
