Anyone got an example of a covering letter? Am wanting to get mine done, but I've literally never had to do one...so I wouldn't even know where to start! Am not trying to rip anyone's off, just really stuck...and i need to get one done...Even suggestions as to what I need in there?

i can't seem to find one of my old ones, but basically it's a way of personalising your cv and getting the attention of the person who's about to look at your cv, so they are quite important and really difficult to write.
you need to be concise and convey immediately the kind of personality you are. it's a place where you can get across all the things that might not emerge from your cv.
speak about the particular job and firm that you are addressing and why you would be a good fit for that specific position and work environment.
be passionate about yourself.
i'll try and find you a decent example...

I hate covering letters. Always hard to write.
Go through the requirements for the job and give examples of how you meet their needs.

I've only sent one cover letter ever and it was just copy and pasted text from a "How to Write a Cover Letter" website...

I want to get some placements in London, so I’m writing a covering letter to introduce myself. I have never had to write one before.

Keep it somewhat short. 3 paragraphs.
Briefly talk about "you" and cover your past work experience, something that stands out, if you don't have too much work experience then you could go into your education a bit more.
Talk about why you think their company is "so" good, and why you would fit in.
Close off with saying you'd like an interview, and that you will give them a follow-up email or call in a few days/week.

i just like the fact that these same things are called 'covering' letters in britain and 'cover' letters in the u.s.
:)

I believe the term is 'Cover Letter' but then again we Americans have incorporated many French words like 'Resume' instead of your 'CV - Curriculum Vitae'.

totally mpfree. i use CV almost instinctually and i always get a blank stare back.
"nevermind. i'll just send my resumé..."

there you have it.
Frenchies!
