The Open University rocks!
You would never get cool-sh*t like that with a for-profit organization.
Unless "The Simple Life" with Paris Hilton is considered educational...maybe it is in way!

well we can't get away with saying certain things and having nudity on public TV like most of the EU has. We have to privatize/privatise it. Yes this country is conservative one way or another.

(May 16 06, 09:18)After seeing one too many Scandinavian Polar Bear Club reports on BBC World, I've been convinced that this is a good thing.

BBC America, BBC World, DVD sales etc all subsidise our license fee to keep it as low as possible.
Thank you for your contribution.

regardless vespa, HBO would have made this available LONG ago if they deamed it be profitable.
major corporations such as this always find loopholes to get what they want

Concrete
(May 16 06, 09:11)i make up for it by having a breathtaking lack of common sense.
- vespa0
exactly mpfree, they haven't worked out how to make it profitable yet.
we have a different funding model with the public license fee. i tried to tell you this earlier.

BBC America Rocks!
Oh wait a minute, what's that? Commericals. Hmm? I thought the BBC was only funded by the TV Licence...no wait, what's that. My DVD boxset of The Office? I bought that? The BBC resells stuff that's already been paid for? $100 for 6 disks? Shouldn't it be free? Haha..
Nice to see the BBC is working both ends :-)

*Grabs remote to turn on BBC AMERICA - Another service paid for by the generous British TV Licence Paying Public*...
ToxicDesign
(May 16 06, 09:00)BBC america / BBC World is not paid for by the british public. in fact it is one of the commercial arms of the bbc that subsidises our license fee.
- vespa0
it's not worth their time. otherwise they would have already done it. HBO had been in existance since the early 80's.
mpfree
(May 16 06, 08:55)you must be quite out of touch with the industry-wide digital distribution debate that is going on at the moment mpfree. they haven't solved it.
it's the same debate going on across music, film and television.
- determinedmoth0
Hmm, I don't get it either. I KNOW the BBC is a paid by UK residents (whether they want to or not)
ToxicDesign
(May 16 06, 09:00)That's not actually the case at all.
