anyone know of a way to get a decent high-res screen capture for use in a printed brochure?
- rasko40
I am assuming you are familiar with the concept of screen resolution?
- rasko40
screen grab then res up by 200% or 400% with resample set to bicubic.

I would strongly recommend you not to do that. 72dpi is not for print.
- rasko40
then convert to 300dpi

i fully understand that 72dpi is not for print - that's why a run-of-the-mill screen capture won't work. i'm wondering if there are any tools/tricks to get a better result.

LOL @ gruntt turning into the client saying "just get the logo off the website"
- grunttt0
or - "oh you don't have a website? hold up your business card, i'll take picture with my camera phone."
=)

there is no trick to make it good for print. it will always stay crappy no matter how much you work on it.
no worth the effort

Once some video guy here (chossy? Kelpie? skt?) said that he used to resample a video frame to 360dpi and then lower to 300, to get something printable.

it depends though, if you are putting stuff into print and it is meant to be a screengrab then my technique is fine, you can adjust the resampling depending on whether your image is heavily aliased or not, but yeah, if you are hoping to say, grab from a dvd and print a nice sharp image then you are basically google image searching amd resing up.

it's not a photo or logo it's a drop down menu with icons for a particular piece of software. i'll see what results i can get with rasko's advice.
gracias.

there you go again with 72dpi...
screenshots aren't intrinsically 72dpi, theryre just 'not real big'. How much of a problem you have (or not) depends on how big you want to print it (could be 300dpi right out of the box if you print it small)... the bilinear upsizing is useful, though again it depends on your printing technology and the effect you are after...

You can get a decent browser chrome by upping the resolution whilst in indexed mode...
is how i do my screenshots.

Just print it on some really small paper at 72dpi. no one will know the difference.
