I gave him a $3,500 invoice 5 weeks ago. I was giving him invoices every two weeks and he would pay them on time until now. Now he won't answer emails or phone calls. The work has been completed and I gave him most of the assets.
How long would you guys wait before you hire a lawyer?

i would wait no longer than 30 days

this happened to me two years ago, send out two letters within two weeks of each other advising him that if this isnt paid soon you will be seeking advice from your lawyer, if you dont receive anything in return get on to the lawyer straight away.
Record the days that you sent he letters out etc and keep everything, also make a point to your lawyer that he was paying ok untill recently they may be ble to look up his assets to seek quick payment.
Once you receive mulla never work with them again unless you have received 50% upfront.

I would send a notice that they have 10 days to pay amount in full or the account will be turned in for collection.

Give them 60 days and then go to a collections agency.

Oh yeah, the payment every two weeks agreement was made through email. I forgot to write it down on the invoice or in the contract.
I'm an idiot I know : ) Thanks for the advice guys.

If he doesn't pay, hold his cat ransom!
Worked for me before.
