Hey guys,
Can someone direct me to a decent forum for musicians / guitarists regarding tech stuff.
I'm seeking some advice on my rig setup etc.
I've looked around but, tbh the guitar forums I've found seem to be biased around a particular style of music (I play metal incedentally)
thanks,
Phil

this is a good resource for getting tab/chords for tunes
http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/
theyve also got forums too so you might get some help there

This isn't exactly what you're asking for but I've been working on a series of guitar lesson videos:

Awesome.
Basically I can play guitar, I just want to work on my tone and need some advice on what to buy to get the sound I want (short of a new guitar).
I have a Tokai SG, Marshall JCM800 half stack, zoom 707, super cry baby wah, marshall jackhammer distortion, + various other stomp boxes.
Right my SG has an absolutely gorgeous clean tone, really it's the best part of the guitar. But with distortion - It's hard to find a good tone, I have to use the treble pickup selector to get an okay sound out of it.
SGs are great, but I am beginning to realise why metal guitarists don't have SGs..

Err, angus young got a pretty good rock sound from his SG. Derek Trucks plays an SG and it's awesome.
Throw away your zoom 707, multi effects are of no use to anyone.
Get a good valve amp and plug directly in. Use your guitars natural tone and push the amp into overdrive. Any additonal effects should be stomp boxes like you have. I have an Ibanez tubescreamer which is great for a bit of a push.
Remember that tone is in your fingers not what effects you have. The more effects you have, the more you're trying to hide. It should be about what notes your play that's important.
hendrix could have played your set up and still got a great tone (although not using a crappy multi effects box!)

An by "valve" you mean "tube"..dang British..
I agree about the whole digital effect thing..however I got the Vox tonelab unit and I gotta say it sounds pretty damn awesome, cause it has a valve..I mean tube..in it..
And here"s a few good guitar forums:

And here's a cool blog for guitar shredder types:

Thanks for the links.
Baskerville: Thanks for the tip I think I need to try and lose the multi effects, I'm self taught so have weird ways of doing things, I like to shred too, I'm seeing the flaws in my setup now.
I have a jcm800 which is a 100W pure valve (that's tube) head - you think I need to get a new one?
I think I need to get an overdrive pedal, then go in to the high sensitivity input and crank the preamps.
Thanks
