hey. heading to bali in sept - surf trip. anyone got some stories or advice? i am going with my mate who has been there 3 times, but you know - time wasting and all that...like to hear your stories...

Lucky bastard. Why not try and skirt the Ulus, Padang and Bingin frothers. Jump a bike or bemo to Lombok, Nusa Lembongan or even Sumbawa. Honestly the adventure makes the waves infinately better.

Be careful mate...around bars and restaurants..sounds like a silly thing to say...but it ain't what it used to be.
Been there 3 times back in the day - before it started getting super aggro.
Bottom line is that it is a beautiful place...with fuckin awesome breaks.
May thru september are the months it cranks best so you should be able to score some beauts.
3 breaks that spring immediately to mind are Uluwatu, Padang Padang and Impossibles - but Kut reef and the airport breaks are awesome too.
I had the best day of my surfing life out at impossibles one day. Longest backside rides of my life in perfect 6- 8 ft glassy tubes of awesomeness. On teh set of the day I took off too late on what looked like an easy 10 footer and got pitched backwards onto the reef. Broken board, coral in head, and reef rash on my chest that I still have scars from to this day.
Eating Nasi and Bami Goreng for like...$2...and staying at Kuta in the beach huts at teh far end of teh beach for liek..$5 a night...fucking bliss.
Have an awesome time and take loads of pics!!!

mmmm...lombok. good call

well you can't jump a bike from bali to lombok since it's seperated by a strait. hehe. anyway do go to lombok island. and most definitely go to sumbawa.
if you've got the time. go to nias, sumatra. though it's way west of bali, some of the best waves in the world are there

awesome. yeah we're getting straight of kuta quick fast. uluwata and around there is where we will base ourselves - maybe doing a boat trip to get away from the girls too :) — just for a few days...yeah right
trying to bloody get some lefthanders here in vic for practise but its pretty hard going left at bells!

my surfing guru Bodi took me under his wing after I stopped playing college ball

Yes, I know Bali is an island. However getting a bike and hitting the road (via ferries) will get you to Lombok, Sumbawa and even Java's incredible coastline... do some reading first, even if it's Lonely Planet.
Somewhere out there in cyberspace are the new (since the tsunami) directions to Nias.
I used to go to Lakey Peak and Periscopes back in the early 90's. The locals are so cool, the food awesome and the waves just beyond anything you've ever ridden. Highly recommended.
So is Paw Paw ointment for the nut rash you'll endure from the ride there.

stocking up on paw paw now... haha
lakey peak is high on the list too - so i can surf a bloody right hander.
dead keen.
ahh! come on sun and good food!

I haven't been there since 94... and I was on a booger back then too! What a waste of an Indonesian heritage hehe
Anyways, here's a pretty good site which names a lot of spots that a lot of people don't know about:
http://www.wannasurf.com/spot/As…You'll be loving the warm water after a long Vicco winter :)

was waiting to hear from you enfocus! thx for the link

No worries. Btw, Jetstar had some crazy deals a few weeks ago... $400 return!?!?
I have cousins who live in Nusa Dua and are distributors for T&C. I really have to get my butt over there soon...
Personally, I think I would prefer to check out Sumatara (and not only bc my family is originally from there). BC I live on the Gold Coast, I'm not sure if I want to go to the Indonesian version of where I live now!
- forcetwelve0
too true enfocus. you'd be so keen to get away from crowds after living there.
man - vicco is enough after tassie!

watch out for drowned tourists floating by.

I was reading a sponge magazing back in the day with an article about Eppo and Wingnut going on an Indo cruise. They hit this one place up called One Palm point (it think)
