anyone know why when i save for web in PS the colours go a lot lighter and washed out than my PSD file?

what type of file are yu saving? jpg, png, gif, etc...

JPG and PNG. they all look the same in terms of colour.

the colour settings in your PSD (shft + cmd + k) might not be able to translate the colours to RGB very well.
check that shit out. if your settings are set to some weird fucking standard, that might be your problem.

when i change the settings i get no change in the image colour at all.

i think, it has little to do with the colour settings, i would say its the compression which makes the images a little lighter.

If you're designing for web, change your colour settigns to sRGB in both PS & Illy.
Then go to the proof setup in the view menu. Switch it to Monitor RGB. Then you'll see the same colours in OS, Illy etc.
(In preview mode and also save for web).
