there's not a whole lot to crit with just the screenshot, but it's got a definite personality to it. First thoughts are that it's a bit heavy with the huge 'random phantom' (w/filled in counters). is that going to be there on all pages? also, what sort of music to they play?
the torn paper bit is also massive, but I can't say I've seen anything like it before, so maybe it's off-beat enough to really work. it's definitely distracting from the info/content though.
it's hard to crit the style not knowing anything about the band...

put more effort into it next time
sorry..
hahahahhaha

While it doesn't seem to innovative, it's a decent start. I agree that it'd be necessary to see more of the site before any critiques could be provided.

thanks a lot for the feedback. so the consensus seems to be that it's generally not good. fair enough.
as for seeing more of the site, alll pages will be like this but with different content (i.e. the news items will be replaced with tour dates, or mp3s or contact info).
the band is very new. they sound kinda like m.ward -- mellow, clever indie rock.
i'm going to consider the feedback and be back with an update later if anyone is interested.

the body type is too hard to read. i recommend verdana with no txt effect so it appears 'pixely' and clear. more kerning.
more creative. looks like a template you could get from those people in india. (yes, indians.)

for the record the body type is arial with 0 kearning (i.e. the web default kearning). There is no text effect on it. Perhaps it looks pixelated b/c it's a jpg...?
Either way, thanks for the feedback. I'll consider changing it.

the nav is a bit horsey, does it need to be so large?

Everything's too big. And the torn paper, distressed look is cool...maybe push it more though.

the bigness was intentional as an attempt to be different, but i'm now coming around to the idea that perhaps i went a bit over the top.
thanks again for everyone's time. feedback is much appreciated.

sorta using a similar concept to a site we did a few years back:
I'm certainly not saying there's any plaigarism going on, because you've applied a pretty simple technique quite differently than we had, simply saying there's a similarity in style. Maybe this site would stimulate some ideas...

needs more scanlines.

ignore the store and tunes pages...JV f'd those up.

It's OK, especially depending on the budget. It looks a bit undesigned even for the minimal look you are going for.

thanks era404 for the link and thanks to everyone else for continuing feedback. i'll have an updated version soon. stay tuned.

needs some more effort.
things are a bit heavy, and outdated. Seems like this was a site done in 2001-2002.
I think you really need to finesse this more, drop shadows are harsh, the filled in Os seem like a throw back, the torn paper, when done right can work well, but its coming off as a bit amateurish. Its like you are trying to combine swiss design with bad snowboarding inspired design.
I think over all the big face is killing the design. Take that off and already its improving things. Keep at it.
