I need some opinions on which woman leader is most interesting:
1. Vigdís Finnbogadóttir: former President of Iceland:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vig…2. Mary Robinson: President of Ireland:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mar…3. Sonia Ghandi: President of the Indian National Congress:

fascinating query, jaline. may i ask why you're polling?
i'd say that, if "interesting" is indeed the quality you're asking after, sonia ghandi wins by a neck, if only due to the controversial, chaotic and mysterious relationship she has with the political realm.
robinson, however, is, in my opinion, an amazing leader and has an admirable track record both with the republican party in her own country and her work with globalisation and its discontents, as it were.
finnbogadóttir, although i don't know much about her, seems like a really cool lady. i love that her background is fully theatrical; it highlights the everpresent parallels between theatre and politics and also, as i've only recently come to realise, iceland is a nation devoted to theatre, so it seems appropriate.
so, yeah, i'd say:
culturally: ghandi
politically: robinson
personally: finnbogadóttirhope that's helpful and i also hope you get some decent answers 'round here!

Sonia Ghandi in every way possible.
Check out her life story and you'll see why.
Even though she's part of a corrupt political dynasty, like the Kennedys. But oh well. Not here to judge! :P:D:P

I would def check out the New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clarke as well. Shes been and exceedingly admireable and effect lady.. lets just overlook the fact she had to voice coaching upon getting into power as she sound way to manish!

women who should be leaders

while a bit conserative fiscally (not what i applaud) for a socialist (what i do applaud 100%), Michelle Bachelet is very interesting and setting president for a continent and bucking heavy machismo there. i am happy she is elected even though she is such pro-big business.

Unfortunately, I can't choose anyone from these countries:
Canada, USA, Britain, Australia
since we are already studying them in class. So I have to choose someone else, and I narrowed it down to the list above.
I'm really impressed with the answers, especially Para's detailed reply. Thanks everyone :)

how about wonder woman?

Well, i can say that I personally think mary robinson is sound. She was good friends with one of my neighbours. When we were kids (12-14) she used to visit her friend fairly regularly. She'd arrive in her car full of security gurads with a second security car. We'd be out skateboarding on homemade 1/4 pipes and generally being skater kids needing ASBO's. ANYWAY, she often come over and talk with us - about skating and being a kid in Ireland at the time.
pretty chilled and down with the kids for a president.

Heh, this is going to be hard. I'm leaning towards Sonia, but there is extensive info about Robinson available. Maybe I can do Robinson in the future for another report.

Tarja Halonen, President of Finland.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tar…For the simple fact she looks like Conan O'Brien, and Conan helped her win her second election.

Halonen and Freiberga

Thanks, elms and flavor.
Haha, now Tarja Halonen is in the running because of her Conan likeliness :)
I almost put her into the top 3 but never scrolled down to the see the Conan thing...

I have to do an analysis / profile on a leader who is female. It's for a gender/political class. I want her to be interesting so that I can discuss her struggles, specifically over men/women and cultural issues.
