here in minnesota, there was a documentary on PBSHD on Gehry. I dig him.
So hi did the R&R Hall of Fame? Chalk up another place of 'pilgrimage'.

I'm all for fresh architecture, but the problem always seems to be that the interiors are absolutely atrocious and unusable.

how to design a frank gehry prject (actual design process):
1. make rectangular blocks in correct scale to desired program
2. stack and rearrange until desired form is achieved
3. scan it in 3D and wrap with metal
no thought to function / context / user group... thus, bad architecture.

It would have worked best, if his name was still Frank Goldberg.

I can play the note c on a piano, but I bet mozart can play it better.

you can't really compare gehry and gaudi.
his process is totally based on the exterior form and not so much on interior program and it seems to dismiss the lighting and interior treatment.
his celebrated status amuses me because there are so many great architects who create amazing space that's more contexual and less of a 'surprise-eye-candy'.
he's not changing archectural structure or inventing new structural system. it's been done many times before. he just happen to be the one who really did it big scale and decided to make a statement. if you wanna talk about arch-engeneering, we should talk about Arup and how they have helped many architects to crystalize their visions with their amazing approach and process.
i'd rather worship peter zumthor or tadao ando who can build amazing space using excellent materials, simple form and impeccable light treatment.
but this is just my opinion. my college buddy works for gehry and i don't make any judgements. i'll be seeing him this coming week for a drink.

It's just another theme park to entice people to visit places that aren't interesting enough by themselves.
The man is awfully creative and his author/ego-esque based work doesn't much consider the local culture, which is sinful and he should know better.
From a design/project point of view he just found a way to sell the project to the locals.
I can't believe the government is allowing that confused plastic monster to be the next best thing.
The human race is doomed.
