Which fonts work well together?
Here's one combination:
URW Didoni & Helvetica Neue Bold

Some of them.. it depends what you use them for. Besides the fonts that have both a sans and serif version, make a list of fonts that will benefit the reader and the design, and try to find the one's that are most similar (x-height, stroke modulation, aesthetic, etc)

I recently used TheSans with Garamond Premier Pro, worked quite nicely. Kinda flipped it up, used the Garamond display weight with TheSans semi-light for text.

i recently found out that Bickham is a very flexible script. With the printed items for our wedding, I used it in different places with Benton and with Fedra Serif SC

While I will be the first to borrow the quote about 'good designers using good typefaces, and great designers using good typography', I think there are now more voices than ever that require our abilities in communicating visually. Thus, a two-typeface toolbox just doesn't cut it anymore, if it ever did. I think even the most frugal designer should have no less than six typefaces for different needs, be they constraints of style, legibility, mood, historical or cultural context: at least one old-style, book-oriented serif with italics & attendant small caps + special figures, one grotesque, one humanist, one script, one geometric, and one blackletter.
I'm a creature of habit, and I have at least 30 typefaces that have served me well in my relatively short career. I believe in using great typography (I've gotten a fair bit better than my portfolio shows, thanks to the current job), I just like to see some variety!

gramme, gotham and mercury?
aren't they too similar? you know i can still see Gotham for headlines in caps and Mercury for body text but still, may look messy, as they are too alike, yet not......hmm..

I know what you mean Crouwel. I bought it too but I always end up using Caslon Black instead. It is very beautiful when you pair it up with Helvetica Neue though. See: www.establishedandsons.com
