Have speakers gone wireless yet?
That's what I'm waiting for.
If I am going to put speakers all over the place, I don't want the hassle of wires too boot.

Ok though. I just went to Amazon and read the reviews and people were not impressed. Maybe it was just the demo in store but I was really impressed with them.
Maybe I wouldn't recommend these now. :/

>you can get a really good amp >20 years old that will sound way >better than a new $250 amp.
I'd say this holds true for good speakers. Amps get old - find me a 20 year old amp that supports 5.1 - amps improve every year with better chips and capabilities.

i want these if i can find a place to demo them. circuit shitty and best buy only carry the model below, but all the reviews are great.

That Bose Cinemate system sounds pretty decent actually.
" I think some of you are missing the essential point of this system. BOSE does not advertise this as a 5.1 replacement system, but as an upgrade to television sound. Those who know sound quality will tell you TV speakers are horrible, and $500 for a sound upgrade is NOT expensive at all. This system is made for a bedroom type set-up ... not to replace a receiver and speaker surround set.
The whole point is that you have a TV, and one component (say a DVD player or TiVo) but don't have space or want to invest in a complete surround package (receiver, speakers, mounts, wiring ... etc).
The Bose CineMate system does a wonderful job of exactly what it is advertised to do: complement your TV in a simple way. Best Buy and Circuit City's demo's from Bose even state this exactly, it is a complement to your TV, without the technicalities of a full surround system. If these were perfect, or designed to replace surround systems, Bose would obviously not make their Lifestyle systems.
Think about it, it's not doing what you want it to do because you're expecting something other than what it is designed for. Simplicity."
I'm not looking for a balls out 8-speaker system - just something simple that sounds decent...

(Mar 20 07, 08:49)if we're talking about integrated pre and amp, sure, but the analog part of the amp hasn't changed much. i use older stereo and mono amps to make 5 channels, and a separate surround pre that i've upgraded a few times.

(Mar 20 07, 08:47)unless you buy an integrated system, you can now hook your subwoofer up wirelessly. there are a couple of wireless rear speakers on the market, but nothing that interesting. these are wireless, but i'm not into logitec for this type of use:

(Mar 20 07, 08:49)i like 20+ year old amps because:
- they actually 'allowed' the manufac's to make 3-channel amps
- they would not overheat...ever
- they are tough (shell, form factor)
- they have high quality inputs for speakers (100% gold)
- they look bad ass ;)

we have a denon receiver that we love. I just sent MrMayo an email for suggestions. He's an AV junkie. Our set-up is ridiculous.

yeah, old amps are great unless you plan on going to hdmi/digital

Wrd, thanks sputnik.

wow - that looks pretty good no? Wireless? sweet
- flavorful0
Yea, just the rear ones but those are the ones that I’d want to be wireless at the very least.
I’m not looking for anything earth shattering, this looks great and economical.

So... I'm not a huge A/V /Home theater junkie. I bought a Cambridge Soundworks Home Thearter package (5 MC300 speakers, Sub, and Marantz Reciever) when I got my Plasma about 5 years back. Decent system... but I have a question pertaining to AMPS & Intergrated AMPS. Do they make a big difference to a home theater package? What kind of improvements would I get?
Also, anyone live in a older house and get a hum when you turn your volume up? It's annoying... wonder if there is a fix?
- mayo0
i live in an older house (1940 brick cottage) and I don't get a hum. Of course, we sound-proofed our "theater" so that may have something to do with it.
- mrdobolina0
mayo, barnyard porn generally has no audio though, right?
- flavorful0
?! hahah

if your not a huge junkie go with an integrated A/V receiver, preferably one with a calibration system (Yamaha, Denon, pioneer). They will give you reliable sound without having to invest tons of time making it right. In truth though a good set of speakers will make more of a difference.
