Calgary and the surronding areas are very very dry. I keep hearing reports that oil industry has been using more and more water while the water table keeps getting lower.

Grr I really hate Calgary now, took me an hour and a half to drive 15km to work this morning. People forget how to drive as soon as a little snow falls to the ground.

Alberta has been living off its enviromently capital for some time.
But recently people seem to be getting more enviromently conscience and these issues are becoming main stream in the media.

yes - exactly. and the population boom has allowed for proper planning. there is just a small river that runs through the city and a lot of that water is being diverted farther up stream...

i hear there's no public transit and no one to drive the buses...
it seems as far as design in calgary goes - they need urban planners and environmental designers...

i loved the Bow river - it would've been cool if you could fish from it :(

there's a train system and buses....
but albertans LOVE thier vehicles

And by vehicles you mean large trucks and SUVs with only the driver in them? :)

a lot of people are selling everything and moving their families here because they have a great job, only to find they can't find a place to rent, or can't afford to buy a house. there is a lot of families living in shelters right now.

(Mar 21 07, 09:06)We hear this all the time, but with all due respect, who uproots with a family to a new city without a plan? Really, do some research and find a place to work first. Common sense.

(Mar 21 07, 09:46)Yes, people here love to drop 60k on a massive pickup. We call them the 'Calgary Cadillac.'
Throughback to redneck roots even though it's housewives and execs driving these things as much as trades people.

Err... in previous message I meant "find a place to LIVE first"

(Mar 21 07, 09:32)drivers in calgary are so stupid. the other day i got stuck behind this suv going soooo slow, when i could finally pass her i found out the reason she was going so slow, she was TEXT MESSAGING on her blackberry. shit like this happens on a regular basis. i know there are bad drivers everywhere but it seems like calgary is particularly bad. i can't drive anywhere anymore without wanting to yell at least a million times at stupid drivers.

I agree... my wife and I have come to the same conclusion here in Calgary. We almost dread some days having to venture out because driving always ruins are mood... even when we try to ignore it. It's hard when people are often putting your life in danger because they are texting, putting their make up on or reading the paper.... and use a freakin' blinker once in a while!

do you notice that you'll be stopped behind someone at a light, then when the light turns green they FINALLY decide to put their left turning signal on so it's too late for you to get into the right lane and pass them??? What the hell is up with that? it happens ALL the time.
- ETM0
Yeah... all the time.
Or how about your light turns green, but like 5 people run the red light and turn in front of you. By the time they're done... you have no green light left to go on! Argh!
I guess we kinds hijacked this thread into a personal converstaion - sorry all.
