I am a graphic designer, but that title has become so cliché. I am attending school in the fall for a MFA program in graphic design. My first goal for an identity is to start sending out my cards to create future contacts. I want to follow up with visiting artists and clients. My problem is what do I title myself or do I title myself at all. I am designing under my first name that has nothing to do with design...MERRITT. So with that said I have no strength with a card that is handed over that just says MERRITT and my contact info.
I am looking for advice on what to call myself or what to use as a title. Ideas please.
My primary role is in print.

Paul Rand always says to big yourself up if you're a one-man-band otherwise you get pigeon holed into the artworker market. My cards all say "Creative Partner" since I work with my wife. Be vague.

My card just says "designer" under my name. It's general enough to get people asking about what sort of design I do, since a lot of things fall under the heading of 'design'...
Who cares about cliches. Design is what we do. Keep it simple.
I wouldn't spend much time thinking about this if I were you.
