lol!

Sound like a lemon to me. Have you replaced the power supple. If not, then look at that next. The power supply might look like it is working correctly, but if it spikes, it can make a computer crash, I had this when I first built a PC, and it was the last fucking thing I changed.
Apple might ask you to buy a new one if you cannot prove the unit is faulty? Typical
Good luck.

You have applecare, right? Read the agreement, there's a clause in there that says if repairs on covered parts takes an unreasonable amoumt of time or is consistently failing (basically a lemon) they will replace the machine with either the same model or the current model filling that market space.
I got a new powerbook from an apple store a year and a half ago for that exact reason. You might want to bring that up with the tech manager next time you bring it in. But be civil about it because its a manager's discretion kinda thing.

as lame as this might sound have your tried resetting your PRAM?
APPLE+OPT+P+R
what about memory?
i had a huge problem with bad memory.. i had a bad chip and it would freeze / crash my machine randomly.. for moths i thought it was a heating issue.. i even took it into an apple store and they're so called "genius" people couldn't figure it out.it turned out that the memory chip was causing it. so if you bought memory separate for the machine try taking it out and see what happens.
the memory read fine on my machine, but it still caused havoc
for a few months till i figured it outby the way.. the people at apple's genius bar are a bunch
of pricks! they treat everyone as if they're mac gods.
there are people that do know how to run a mac!!

We had a lemon at my old job. Same thing we replaced all the same items and it turned out it needed a new processor, everything else was fine to begin with.

did it always crash, or did this develop gradually?
- BonSeff0
the processors basically have a fucking mini fridge cooling them. i dont get it
- BonSeff0
it crashes apprx every 8 working days.. like fucking clockwork. those times when i have done a lot of work and havent saved for about 40 minutes
- akoni0
could be a short
- quest760
so when exactly does it crash?
- mrdobolina0
it probably is heat, nine times out of ten with sudden crashes I notice it is heat. put an ice pack on it.

i shut it down everynight.
i just think the machine is a lemon.
fresh out of the box, i plug it in and boom! goes the power supply. sounded like .357 went off.
downhill from there.. this machine is about 8months old. when the fans go, it sounds like a freakin jet engine.

does it get shut down regularly?
- shutting them off once or twice a week, and over the weekend i've always done for years and never had a problemhow old is it? how exactly does it do it's madness?
- at the last company i was at, it was an older g5 1.6Ghz. it would randomly just go black (the screen) a few times a day. turns out it was the fan going bad and the cpu was at it's max degree and was shutting off as not to overheat. the quick fix was to buy a small fan and put it on the desk blowing at the g5. the real fix was replacing the fan.hope that helps.
