but you can vent with me
I have been working on comps for a client (startup) for about 2 months now, I have made probably 3 different versions and 10 different variations of one version.and it is hideous.
I am under NDA so I can't show, however, when is it time to hang up your hat on a project and say, sorry I can't do this anymore because I don't believe this will do you any good? Even if this client was sent to you from a bigger client whom is also a very respected friend? Its painful to look at and I don't feel as if I am designing anymore, just manufacturing. The client even stood over my shoulder for 3 hours moving around elements and telling me what colors to you.
However he says, you're the designer!
Anywho... vent with me its Friday!! I think I will go get drunk after this!!!

if you can afford it fuck it. just make sure it doesn't affect your relationship with you bigger client/friend

sucks! If it makes you feel any better, i had a brainstorming session w/ some people here this morning and an idea that I thought was really cool got shot down.
Words to live by: when you get shot down, put a shot down. To your health!*
*in moderation, of course ;)

sometimes it's better to cut your losses if you can, akoni. same thing happened to me a while back w/a client. he wanted a new logo and a site. after going through countless iterations of the logo and having him micro manage, i told him we weren't getting anywhere and if we could just move on to the site.
i lost a lot of time and money, but it was better to stop than continue. the site went swimmingly well and i convinced him to keep his old logo which he clearly had a hard time letting go of.
