"...if Mozilla and the W3C take the lead, Redmond would feel the pressure to follow or be left behind."
Hahaha..hahahHAHAHAHA...
They'd 'feel pressure' oh that's rich. I can see the next MS board meeting called just over the 'pressing animated GIF issue'..they wouldn't care and I doubt we'll ever see IE support for this before 2025..

(Aug 15 07, 02:05)Precisely why this idea wont work.
PNG's in their native state aren't yet supported fully across all browsers, so why introduce a new PNG?
We'll still be using GIF's in 2025 - you'll see.

I'd rather see Safari and IE die before GIF's. Both are fucking hopeless, and the death of them would cure all problems.

i wonder if we'll have animated jetpacks in 2025

Any word on aPNG file sizes?
This is a good step forward - of course we'll be having to eke out the occasional animated gif in 25 years (on IE), but we need companies to embrace newer technologies - otherwise nothing would ever advance.
I was very surprised at how quickly XML data took hold of the web and with FFs frequent update cycle, there's no reason for these tech to not become mass market as soon as we want.
Will canvas be SVG format? I've been wanting to start dicking around that with tfor a while - now looks good.

Recent browser stats show FF almost taking over IE:

*you know your site will look better if it was coded in html5 with APNG anims *
-insert new trends here-

(Aug 15 07, 05:14)probably something like that i suppose. SVG is complicated though, without an app. there's one called inkscape but it's hardly a pro tool. i like the ideia of coding graphics, but its crazy to suppose one could program a fullscreen bitmap before retirement.

Oh, fo'sho' - but I wouldn't even consider doing bitmap-like graphics in Illustrator, with which I spend half my life!
Anything that can give me some Flash functionality - clean gradients and scalable page elements, without having to bother with that damnable product, is good.

(Aug 15 07, 04:35)Well yes. I am.
The problem is the bad drivers on the road, not the road itself.
